The Suzuki pickup, also known as Suzuki Ravi Pickup, is the open deck variant of the Suzuki Carry microvan. Therefore, it commonly shares the platform with the other two variants, cargo van, and passenger van. This small utility vehicle was initially launched in 1961. The production was started in Pakistan by Pak Suzuki Motors in 1979. After almost 40 years, the local subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation has not been able to bring much variation in this vehicle. The latest models of this Pickup are called Suzuki Ravi, while in the international markets it is called Suzuki Carry truck. Local transporters use this commercial vehicle to carry light cargo.
Reasons to buy Suzuki Pickup in Pakistan – Suzuki Ravi Review
Suzuki Pickup Powertrain and Performance
The new Suzuki Ravi is equipped with a 796cc water-cooled OHC EFi three-cylinder engine, which ensures quick start, steady drive, and optimum fuel efficiency. Although the engine is small in size, producing a maximum 37 horsepower 62 Nm torque, it is powerful enough to drag significant weight. In addition, the pickup uses four-speed all-synchromesh manual transmission with the smooth gearshift. It also gets strut type suspension on the front wheels and leaf spring suspension on the rear ones. The currently produced models comply with Euro II emission standards, which means, they pose the least threat to the environment.
Suzuki Ravi Design and Structure
The design of the Suzuki Ravi has not been changed much over three and a half decade of production. The only alterations you can see in the exterior of the current models are a black plastic grille and reshaped headlights. Moreover, the automaker has made available new metallic exterior colors that come at an extra cost. The three available body paints are Silky Silver, Solid White, and Pearl Red. On the inside, you get conventional gearshift knob, two-tone upholstery, plastic interior panels and a seating capacity for two persons. However, the interior is slightly innovated with the newly designed instrument panel and four-spoke plastic steering wheel.
Being a commercial car, the Suzuki Pickup is designed for maximum utility. The rear deck is around 76 inches long, 52 inches wide and just 11 inches higher than the ground. This helps you in easy loading and unloading of the cargo. It has an overall curb weight of 650 kg and allows the maximum loading capacity of 600 kilograms (including two persons).
Suzuki Ravi Features
The Suzuki Pickup does not have any premium features that extend higher comfort and convenience. It is a simple, low-priced commercial vehicle, fit for light-duty jobs. Suzuki made the rear deck safer with a rear gate shell that is held tight by strong clips when the cargo is loaded. Moreover, the automaker built the side walls of the deck with hooks that allow securing cargo with ropes or belts.
Suzuki Ravi Pickup Price and Availability in Pakistan
The all-new Suzuki Ravi pickup is offered by Pak Suzuki Motors across Pakistan through its wide distribution network. The price of the new Suzuki pickup is PKR 796,000 (without taxes), while the extended warranty has its own cost (starting from PKR 4,100). In addition, the metallic color would cost you an extra. As far as the used Suzuki Pickups are concerned, you can get one in a price range of PKR 300,000 – PKR 700,000.
Conclusion
The Suzuki Pickup is a widely used van that does not have any significant competitor in this market other than the FAW Carrier and newly introduced Changan M8 and Changan M9. The basic reason for Ravi’s popularity is its low cost, easy availability of spare parts and after-sales services. For public transportation, you can also refer to the Suzuki Bolan – a passenger car with almost similar design and features.
